The Duha Operating System is designed to link the various day-to-day activities within the Duha Group supply chain to a Continuous Improvement focused environment, in which employees use system-specific tools to improve and eliminate waste. This philosophy extends to suppliers and customers.
With a shared vision of “One Improvement in Every Department Every Day,” we will never be content or stopped in the pursuit of excellence.
DO’s Passport to World Excellence Belt Program
As a Learning Organization first and a Manufacturer second, The Duha Group has developed a Passport to World Excellence Program that lets all staff participate in various Continuous Improvement exercises that are linked to the different “Belt Levels” listed below.
Through “Lunch and Learn” format training sessions, the White Belt primarily focuses on improving facility-wide communication and allowing staff from different areas to network. In addition, the different White Belt categories allow teams of employees to understand the basic concepts and terminologies specific to the subject. These subjects fall under 6 main categories: Health & Safety, Human Resources, Lean Thinking, Product Knowledge, Quality Assurance and Sustainability (Environmental). All employees are also encouraged to lead a Lunch and Learn session on a topic that they feel will give value to their peers.
At this level employees work in teams that focus more on principle than theory with respect to the tools they are being taught and the results coming from these events. Participants learn how to: plan a Kaizen Event, improve their presentation skills, participate in value stream map (VSM) and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats (SWOT) sessions as well as run LEAN simulations.
This level of training focuses more on the “train the trainer” concept where participants actually design their own Lunch and Learn, teach White Belt Level L&L’s, participate in full Turbo and Special Interest Group Kaizen Events, while presenting actual results, as well as lead Lean Implementation level courses to their peers.
At this level the participants are expected to champion various events such as Turbo and SIG Kaizens from start to finish, lead Value Stream Maps and SWOT events with team focus being on implementing improvement back into the work place.
All activities are recorded on the employee individual Passport to World Excellence passport which resides in our Passport to World Excellence Center.
Continuous Improvement Program (CHIPS)
At Duha, our Continuous Improvement Program is focused on ensuring that we recognize all employees for their efforts in making The Duha Group a success and, therefore, our Customers Experiences positive. CHIPS, recognizes “all” team and Individual growth activities that fall outside of the employees day-to-day responsibilities.
We have identified the following five areas for recognition:
- DO’S CI Committees (SIG Initiative focused)
- DO’S Recognition (Employee Initiative focused)
- DO’S Events (Team Lean Kaizen Result based )
- DO’S Belt Level Program (Passport to World Excellence value added event based)
- DO’s Long-Term Service Recognition (Employee loyalty based)
Recognitions are recorded in the CHIPS program, an internal database that tracks employees CI Credits. Employees collect rewards of their own choice when they reach different point levels. Points can be spent on items ranging from gift cards to retirement savings plans.
External Training Partners
Also linked to the Duha Operating Systems Passport to World Excellence Program is a world class External Training Program through which Duha employees use their skills to assist other companies and their staff in the installations of Continuous Improvement Tools and Culture. At Duha, we feel the best set of eyes are those from the outside because they offer new and unique solutions to opportunities. With that in mind we offer other companies an “Outside Eyes” evaluation and from there can help develop their own in-house programs based on their needs.
At Duha Group, we develop, test and re-develop our in-house Lean Tools to eliminate waste in our processes while improving safety, quality and efficiency, We are committed to helping other companies on their own Lean Journeys. Our Duha Center of Excellence website makes our Lean Vault of individual tools and complete systems available to anyone who feels they can benefit from them, including our own operations in 7 countries and many of our Lean partners.
